Description
Inrad Optics is seeking self-motivated individuals to add to our growing team of Optical Technicians. We are looking for someone with the hands-on skills to machine our precision custom optics. If you are focused, with a keen attention to detail, then you may be an excellent candidate for one of our career-building positions manufacturing precision optics for medical, defense and space applications.
Key responsibilities
- Cleaning, handling and packaging of optical components.
- Handling of various materials related to manufacturing of precision optics.
- Operation of optical polishing, grinding, milling and generating machines.
- Use of various instruments and measurement gauges.
- Read, understand and follow optical blueprints and ensure conformity to blueprint specifications and the work order traveler.
- Hand grind and spindle grind optical glass, quartz and infrared optical material and ensure conformity to work order traveler and blueprint specifications.
- Set up and operate optical spindle machines to polish various optical components, including windows, prisms, and lenses. Typical materials consist of optical glass, quartz, zinc selenide, silicon and germanium.
- Clean, assemble, cure and test complex optical assemblies and components to customer specifications.
- In conjunction with engineering assist in development and use of optical and mechanical fixtures. Test and qualify fixtures.
- Set up all jobs including materials, fixtures, instruments and measuring devices.
- Final test assemblies to assure tolerances are met.
- Identify and repair assemblies that do not meet tolerances.
- Maintain and clean all machinery and follow preventive maintenance schedules.
- Responsible for maintaining a clean, safe and organized work area on a daily basis.
- Maintain required operation documentation & records.
Key requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent; additional optical training preferred.
- Technical or mechanical background preferred, but not required
- Experience in precision small component assembly, preferably in an optical job shop environment, preferred but not required
- Strong knowledge of optical measurement and test equipment & procedures, preferred but not required
- Ability to read & interpret complex optical prints & drawings
- Basic math skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Keen attention to detail, thorough in completing work tasks
- Problem solving skills
- Hand-eye coordination and hand dexterity
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident as we are a United States controlled information facility
- Candidates must complete a basic skills assessment
