Inrad Optics, a leading producer of custom optics, optical coatings, crystal components, devices and electro-optical systems has an opportunity for a Diamond Turning Technician at its corporate headquarters in Northvale, NJ.  This position reports to the Director of Production.

This position is responsible for operating diamond turning machines and fly-cutter machines to manufacture close tolerance precision metal optics parts to exacting specifications.

Essential responsibilities include:

  • Perform close tolerance machining operations utilizing specialized machining equipment.
  • Perform set ups, measure and inspect work and maintain machines.  Includes use of calipers, micrometers and other measuring tools.
  • Interpret and follow complex blueprints, operating instructions and optical criteria.
  • Maintain product and machine logbooks detailing operating parameters, set ups and throughput.
  • Identify cost, quality and cycle time improvements for products and processes.
  • Set up and operate processes.
  • Troubleshoot existing processes.
  • Troubleshoot equipment, processes, tooling and fixtures as needed.
  • Ensure equipment and tool maintenance is performed.
  • Consult with manufacturing supervision to solve problems and improve efficiency.
  • Write non-conforming material reports when required.
  • Maintain clean and orderly work station and area.
  • Perform other manufacturing tasks in various departments as assigned.
  • Ensure compliance to Inrad Optics Quality System.

The successful candidate must be a high school graduate or equivalent, ideally with relevant trade school or apprentice training.   Minimum 3 years prior experience in machining and or machine operation in a manufacturing environment preferred.

Relevant experience includes:

  • Ability to read and interpret complex blue prints and work instructions.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude to set up and trouble shoot equipment
  • Experience in the use of calipers, micrometers, and other machine shop measuring tools.
  • Proven hand-eye coordination techniques.
