Inrad Optics, a leading producer of custom optics, optical coatings, crystal components, devices and systems has an opportunity for a Sales Engineer at its corporate headquarters in Northvale, NJ. This position reports to the Vice President, Sales and Marketing.

This position will provide technical, engineering and quoting support to the Sales Team and will interface with sales staff, customers, engineering, manufacturing, and other Inrad Optics groups to manage customer relationships and quoting activity.

Essential responsibilities include:

  • In conjunction with Sales and Manufacturing, respond to Requests for Quotes/Proposals (RFQ/P) by producing timely and accurate responses to RFQ/P’s and related information.
  • Coordinate technical support from engineering and manufacturing resources to assist Sales Team with analysis and evaluation of customer requirements.
  • Work closely with customers to optimize the RFQ/P response and tailor it to customer needs and Inrad Optics capabilities.
  • Perform technical contract review including terms/conditions, drawings and revisions, specifications and exceptions.
  • Develop relationships with internal purchasing department and outside suppliers to leverage capabilities and supply chain.
  • Provides support in the assessment, feedback, and reporting of future opportunities to sales management.
  • Development of a broad and deep understanding of the photonics marketplace as it relates to Inrad Optics products.
  • Support Marketing and Sales activities by attending tradeshows, supplier fairs, and topical meetings as needed.

The successful candidate should have a Bachelors degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, or related field with a minimum of 2 years of optics/photonics related engineering experience. Sales experience in a custom optics job shop environment preferred, and experience in technical quote generation a plus. Candidate must possess the ability to work cross functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and R&D to generate accurate and timely quotes. Demonstrated ability to understand customer needs and use technical expertise to develop solutions. In addition the candidate will possess strong problems solving, interpersonal, organizational, and communications skills.
